A Las Cruces Public Schools leader received national recognition this month for leading the way in education technology.
Chief Technology Officer Joshua Silver was named a finalist in two categories in the 2024 EdTech Awards: The EdTech Leadership Award and the EdTech Trendsetter Award. The announcement was made to a worldwide audience of educators, technologists, students, parents, and policymakers interested in building a better future for learners and leaders in the education and workforce sectors.
Celebrating its 14th year, the EdTech Awards is the world’s largest recognition program for education technology, spotlighting people for outstanding contributions in transforming education through technology to enrich the lives of learners everywhere. Featuring the best and the brightest, the EdTech Awards shines a spotlight on cool tools, inspiring leaders and innovative trendsetters across the K-12, higher education, skills, and workforce sectors.
Over the last four years, Silver and his team worked to build a student technician program that gives students the chance to intern with the LCPS team and learn valuable skills.
“I hope to build on a technology pipeline for our students and continue to provide workplace opportunities,” said Silver. “This is a model that I would love to see other districts adopt. Not only does it give students opportunities to gain work experience, but they also gain valuable skills that will serve our entire community.”
Silver also recently organized and hosted Impact 24, a regional technology conference open to all educators in southern New Mexico. In addition, he is credited with creating one of the only film festivals in the state highlighting student-produced films. The Tell the Story Film Showcase recently celebrated its second year on March 20 and 21 and included over 200 submitted student films.
Prior to leading the technology team, Silver was the Director of Online Teaching and Learning, Dean of Students at Arrowhead Park Early College High School and has taught English and Media in the classroom. Celebrating more than 21 years with the district, he was named the LCPS Teacher of the Year in 2014.
