The Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation is proud to announce the launch of its annual Care Kits for Kids Hygiene Supply Drive, running from October 14 through November 2.
In collaboration with Walmart, Mountain View Regional Medical Center, Memorial Medical Center and NMSU Collegiate 4-H, this initiative aims to support Las Cruces Public Schools students by providing essential hygiene supplies.
Lack of access to basic hygiene items is directly linked to student absenteeism. According to research, students who do not have access to items like soap, deodorant, shampoo and laundry detergent are more likely to miss school due to embarrassment or discomfort.
A 2021 report by Dignity Matters found that students facing hygiene insecurity are 2.4 times more likely to experience frequent absences, significantly impacting their academic performance. Additionally, hygiene insecurity affects more than just a student's attendance and academic success—it can also take a toll on their mental and physical well-being.
Donations can be dropped off at any participating Walmart location starting October 14 or at the LCPS Administration Office. All contributions will be sorted and distributed to middle and high school care closets, ensuring students have the supplies they need to attend school confidently and consistently.
